DETERMINATION OF READINESS FOR A COURSE

Print this page

These questions are designed for people who have not taken the Excel – Level 1 course and think they should start at the Excel – Level 2 course (having either been self-taught or using the program, or earlier version, for some time).

CTC Computer Training is dedicated to the highest possible quality of computer instruction. The recommended score at the bottom of the quiz has been carefully calculated to ensure that people attending a higher level course are as prepared as the rest of the people in attendance.

We therefore ask that if your score does not meet the recommended prerequisite score at the bottom of the quiz that you not sign up for the higher level course. Attending a higher course level when you lack the prerequisite skills takes away from the quality of instruction for the rest of the class. Not everyone needs to have the same skill level – just a certain minimum level of preparedness.

Please indicate (YES or NO) your ability to perform the following functions using Microsoft Excel 2000/XP:

YES

NO

I know how to type the word January and have Excel type in the rest of the months for me.

I know how to set up Excel so that I can type in the name of someone in a predefined group and have Excel atuomatically type in the rest of the people in that group for me.

I know how to up add many columns of number (at once) – in one step – without touching the keyboard.

I know what to do if one of my toolbars is missing from the top of the screen.

I know how to centre a spreadsheet heading over a span of many columns (it does NOT involve the centre button).

I know how to sort a spreadsheet - with highlighting any columns.

I know how to add borders and shading to a spreadsheet (like was done at the top of this quiz) to enhance it’s appearance.

I know how to find the average, maximum, minimum, and count (both numeric and text) values of a range of cells.

I understand the use of absolute cells addresses (ie, A$12 vs $A12)

I can make a column it’s optimum width – with just a double-click.

If I printed a very long spreadsheet (say, four pages long), I could make the column headings appear at the top of each of the four pages (without typing them repeatedly).

If I was working on a very long spreadsheet (more than a screen, in length) I could make the column headings stay in place at the top of the screen (so that I'll always know which column heading is in which column) - no matter how far down I scroll.

I know how to format cells so that they take on one appearance under certain conditions and a difference appearance under other conditions.
